Chou Chen-Yi Takes 4th in World Finals Debut, Tseng Eason Climbs to 8th as Team Taiwan Gains Valuable Experience in Bahrain
At the 2025 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, held at the Bahrain International Karting Circuit, five Taiwanese drivers advanced to Finals Day, competing across the Micro Max, Mini Max, Junior Max, DD2 Senior and E20 Master categories.
In a fiercely competitive environment filled with powerhouse teams and relentless race pace, most Taiwanese drivers started from the mid-to-rear portion of the grid, yet continued to push forward at every opportunity, striving to move up the order.
In particular, Mini Max driver Chou Chen-Yi secured an impressive 4th-place finish, while Junior Max driver Tseng Eason fought his way back from the very tail of the field to 8th. The duo became the standout performers for Team Taiwan on Finals Day, showcasing the speed, resilience and potential of the nation’s young drivers on the world stage.
Micro Max –
Micro Max – Huang Yen-Chang: First World Finals Experience, Completing the Distance Under High Pressure
Micro Max
In the Micro Max Final, nine-year-old Huang Yen-Chang, making his first appearance at a world-level event, started from 30th on the grid and ultimately finished 35th.
He was up against rivals of the same age from all over the world, many of whom already possess extensive international race experience. Combined with the intense pace and long race distance of a World Finals, the challenge was substantial for a first-timer at this level.
While the final position may not reflect it on paper, completing the full race distance under pressure and experiencing the speed and rhythm of top-level Micro competitors will serve as a crucial foundation for Huang Yen-Chang’s future development.

At just nine years old, Huang Yen-Chang made his first World Finals appearance in Micro Max and successfully completed the Final.

Although he didn’t finish at the front, completing the full race distance under pressure gave him valuable experience for the future.
Mini Max –
Mini Max – Chou Chen-Yi: 4th Place in World Finals Debut
Mini Max
In the Mini Max Final, World Finals rookie Chou Chen-Yi lined up 24th on the grid. From the start to the closing stages, he drove with remarkable composure, making virtually no major mistakes. His lap times were consistent, his rhythm clear, and his braking points, throttle application on corner exit and racecraft in wheel-to-wheel battles all reflected a maturity beyond his World Finals debut status.
As the race unfolded, he continuously picked off positions and spent much of the distance fighting in close proximity with the lead group. He crossed the line in 7th place on track, but after penalties were applied to several drivers ahead for infringements, his final classified result was upgraded to 4th.
Climbing from P24 to an official P4 represented far more than just a big gain in positions. In his first World Finals appearance, Chou Chen-Yi delivered a performance built on consistency and minimal mistakes, leaving a strong impression in the Mini Max category and marking a significant milestone for Taiwan on the international stage.

World Finals debut, Chou Chen-Yi started the Mini Max Final from 24th on the grid and climbed up to finish 4th.

Chou Chen-Yi (169)”stayed with the lead pack through consistent lap times and an almost error-free drive, showing strong international competitiveness.
Junior Max –
Junior Max – Tseng Eason: Steady Recovery from the Back, Finishing 8th
Junior Max
In the Junior Max Final, Tseng Eason started from 34th on the grid. Shortly after the start, he was caught up in an incident and slipped to the very back of the field, putting him in an extremely difficult position.
Rather than taking excessive risks to force his way back up the order, he focused on resetting mentally and re-establishing his own race rhythm. In the midst of heavy traffic and constant battles, he seized each clean overtaking opportunity, gradually working his way forward to finish 17th on the road. After multiple drivers ahead received penalties for various infringements, his final classified result was promoted to 8th, bringing him back into the top ten.
The defining feature of his race was not a dramatic, all-or-nothing charge, but the ability to regain footing after adversity. Having been pushed to the back so early, he chose to rely on rhythm, patience and consistent pace, maximising every lap and every opening that appeared in a chaotic, hard-fought race.
For Tseng Eason, this Final represented not only a recovery in terms of results, but also a major step forward in mentality and maturity. At a World Finals level, the refusal to give up—even when the race turns against you early—becomes a crucial aspect of true competitive strength.

Tseng Eason started the Junior Max Final from 34th, was shuffled to the back after early incidents, fought back to 17th on track and was classified 8th after penalties ahead.

Tseng Eason (271) kept a steady rhythm and made calm, precise overtakes in an intense race, showing a never-give-up fighting spirit on the world stage.
DD2 Senior – Kao Jie: Struggling with High Tire Pressure but Holding on for 17th
In the DD2 Senior Final, Kao Jie started from 23rd on the grid. His opening phase was solid, and he gradually moved up the order during the first half of the race.
However, as the race entered its middle and later stages, rising tire temperatures and over-inflated pressures pushed the setup beyond its optimal window. Grip levels dropped, lap times became more difficult to maintain, and every lap in the second half of the race became increasingly demanding.
Despite the compromised handling caused by excessive tire pressure, he opted to protect the car and stick to a stable rhythm, rather than over-driving and risking mistakes or retirement. He ultimately brought the kart home in 17th place.
While he fell short of reaching the front group, his progression from the heats through to the Final showed a steady upward trend in this highly demanding category. The experience also underscored, in real race conditions, just how critical tire and pressure management are over long runs—knowledge that will be invaluable for future high-level events.

Kao Jie (470) struggled with overly high tire pressures in the DD2 Senior Final, but dug deep to bring it home in 17th place.

Although Kao Jie (470) couldn’t climb further up the order, he gained a clear, real-world lesson on how crucial tire and pressure management is over a long race distance.
E20 Master – Chiu Yi-Hsien: Battling Illness but Completing the Race to Build EV-Class Experience for Taiwan
In the E20 Master electric class Final, Chiu Yi-Hsien started 14th and finished the race in 15th place.
Prior to the Final, he had already been dealing with health issues that affected both his stamina and concentration. Even so, he chose to take his place on the starting grid and committed to completing the full race distance.
In a category where race rhythm, weight distribution and power delivery differ greatly from traditional combustion karts, his run provided valuable hands-on experience and helped maintain Taiwan’s presence in the E20 class.
The value of this race lies not only in the finishing position, but also in the determination to complete the event for the team and for Taiwan, despite not being in ideal physical condition. That perseverance is a significant part of what this campaign represents.

Chiu Yi-Hsien (708) contested the E20 Master Final despite not being in full physical condition and finished 15th.

Chiu Yi-Hsien (708) chose to complete the full race distance despite limited stamina, adding valuable international race experience for Taiwan in the electric category.
Sasaki Yoshito, Hong Shengya and Fu Yu-Shu all missed out on a place in the Final.

In Senior Max, Sasaki Yoshito started the Pre-Final from P32 and finished 20th; despite gaining positions, a qualifying DQ and a points deficit from the heats left him unable to reach the Final.

Hong Shengya began the Pre-Final from P24 but failed to finish this crucial race and recorded a DNF; his 44-point total left him 56th overall and out of the Final.

Fu Yu-Shu started the Pre-Final from P32 and finished 29th with a steady drive, but his 35 points and overall ranking of P64 also meant he missed the Final.
